Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THERMOWOOD?

ThermoWood is a wood material designed without chemicals using a specialized thermal modification process. This process involves subjecting the wood to high temperatures ranging from 180°C to 230°C in a controlled environment. These high temperatures enhance the chemical and physical properties of the wood, improving its overall quality and performance. This makes the wood more durable and stable, significantly reducing its vulnerability to rot. Additionally, ThermoWood is less likely to warp, swell or shrink than untreated wood due to its reduced moisture content.

WOOD DECKING OR COMPOSITE DECKING - WHICH MATERIAL SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Composite decking materials are very popular in Canada due to their affordability, availability and low maintenance requirements. However, the quality of composite boards varies depending on the manufacturer.

Composite Decking

Composite decks are lightweight and easy to install. They are generally made from 80 to 95% recycled plastic and 5 to 20% sawdust. However, the wood in its core can lead to rot if installed near water or in damp areas. Also, it is not suitable for heavy loads since it can deform under pressure. Over time, the deck may develop superficial scratches. This is why the average warranty for composite decking materials is around 25 years.

Wood deck

Wood decks are generally more expensive and require regular maintenance. However, they are stronger than plastic, making them ideal for high traffic areas or gathering areas. Most wood decks offer a warranty of 25 years or more, depending on the type of wood chosen. They are also more scratch resistant and can maintain rich color with proper care.
